Debashis is a native of Haldia, West Bengal. He completed his bachelors degree from R.K.M. Vidyamandira (then under Calcutta University) and masters from IIT Kanpur. He pursued his Ph.D. studies in Indiana University, Bloomington, USA under the guidance of Prof. Daniel J. Mindiola (now in Upenn) where he developed his passion for inorganic and organometallic chemistry. After a postdoctoral stint in Northwestern University, Evanston, USA (with prof. SonBinh T. Nguyen), Debashis served as a lecturer in Indiana university for a while. In 2016, he has assumed his current position in IISER Mohali and has established his independent career.
